Machapuchare Base Camp, Kaski District, Gandaki Zone, Western Nepal. MBC at an altitude of 3,700 meter is about 25km north from Pokhara the main town of the region. Machapuchare, when translated into English it will read Fish-tail, it simply got its name fish-tail because of the shape of the summit is like a tail of a fish. Machapuchare is towards the southern end of a long spur ridge of Annapurna Himal. So, due to its southern position in the ridge and with other smaller and lower terrain that lies south of the Annapurna Himal, Machapuchare stands tall and visible from various southern towns and cities mainly Pokhara.
